I don't know much about any of these... but it seems that LVM is possibly the best way to do and use snapshots... (?) It sounds like extra work at the beginning (installation of the os) but possibly a really easy way to use and manipulate snapshots better than anything else. Anybody? PS - limiting software to only hosted on Github is completely bogus. Even if this isn't the best option - there could be other projects that the vastly best option is something hosted somewhere besides github!
